Shields Engineering, inc is a Structural Engineering firm established in Reno, Nevada in 1979. The company has an excellent record of providing its clients with structural designs that are functional, innovative and economical. SEi’s project team consist of licensed engineers who have attained Master’s Degrees in Structural Engineering SEi’s highly skilled engineers average 25 years of design experience on Industrial Facilities, Public Safety Facilities, Emergency Operations Facilities, and Detention Facilities serving private corporations, cities, counties, states, and federal agencies.
Shields Engineering, inc works closely with Owners, Contractors, Architects, Building Officials, other Design Professionals, and Subcontractors during design and construction to ensure the project is completed smoothly and efficiently. SEi works closely with the Contractor and the Architect to develop alternate structural systems very early during design to identify the most efficient and cost effective structural materials and framing systems. SEi consistently develops structural systems and assemblies in sufficient detail that allow the Contractor to develop accurate cost estimates during the conceptual, schematic, and design development phases. SEi recognizes the importance of the serviceability of the structure that will reduce future maintenance costs and will extend the design life of the structure. This unique ability to communicate complex designs helps to provide accurate budget control for projects.
Shields Engineering, inc uses the latest version of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Revit Structure to prepare Construction Documents. We recognize the importance of using Building Information Modeling (BIM) to closely coordinate with Architectural and MEP professionals. BIM provides an efficient method for clash detection during the design process. This prevents conflicts between the structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing elements during construction.
Shields Engineering, inc develops Construction Documents with great attention to detail. SEi recognizes the importance of accuracy and coordination of Structural Engineering documents. This precision contributes to successful Design/Bid projects. SEi’s engineering staff is available to answer field questions during construction. SEI believes that site visits by the Structural Engineer are critical to the success of a Project. Located in Reno, Nevada we can provide services throughout the Truckee Meadows and into nearby areas such as, Carson City and Lake Tahoe. Many of our projects extend into urban areas including Winnemucca, Elko, Fallon and Fernley. We also maintain service connections within the southern cities of Boulder and Las Vegas. Being local and neighboring California, we often extend our engineering services and knowledge of the territory into Truckee and Squaw Valley as we are known for our considerable design experience on structures located in areas with high snow loads, and high seismic activity. SEi has expertise in strengthening of existing structures to change the use, seismic retrofit, historic preservation, and evaluation of structures after a failure or natural disaster.
